Meet the Founder
Scott Sidler founded Austin Historical in 2010 with a simple but powerful mission: to protect and preserve the architectural heritage of the Southeast. A graduate of the Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont, Scott has been restoring historic buildings since the late 1990s—and brings decades of hands-on experience as a third-generation painter, plasterer, carpenter, and master glazier.
Beyond leading Austin Historical, Scott is the author of The Craftsman Blog, a go-to resource with millions of readers annually passionate about learning how to care for and restore their historic properties. He also serves on multiple preservation boards across Florida, where he advocates for historic communities and upholds national preservation standards.

We own a nearly 100-year-old house in the Central-Cocoanut District just north of downtown Sarasota. We decided that we wanted to restore the house's original windows, the vast majority of of which are still intact. The Historical Society of Sarasota County recommended Austin Historical for the job. Doug has been great to work with, helping us plan and execute this multi-phase project. He has addressed any questions and/or issues that have arisen directly and with integrity.
