About Austin Historical

What We Stand For

Preserve. Protect. Perfect.

At Austin Historical, we’re not just restoring windows and doors—we’re safeguarding the character, craftsmanship, and cultural legacy of historic buildings across the Southeast. Since our founding in 2010, we’ve earned a reputation for excellence by combining traditional trade skills with modern project management, all grounded in a deep respect for history and the people who care for it.

OUR MISSION

To bless our stakeholders by serving the historic building community with exceptional care.

OUR VISION

To democratize window restoration.

Our approach

Preservation with Purpose

We don’t just restore—we protect architectural heritage with intention. Every project begins with thoughtful assessment, expert planning, and a deep respect for the building’s history. We collaborate closely with architects, owners, and preservation boards to ensure compliance with historic standards while honoring original details.

Craftsmanship Without Compromise

Our work is driven by skill, precision, and pride. Whether it's repairing a single sash or restoring 1,500 windows, our craftsmen apply traditional techniques and premium materials to deliver results that last—and often exceed modern performance standards.

Client-Centered Process

From pre-construction to final turnover, we prioritize communication, transparency, and flexibility. We guide clients through every step with clear timelines, realistic budgets, and proactive problem-solving. We pull all necessary permits, comply with EPA lead safety laws, and deliver documentation that makes inspections smooth and successful.

See Why Homeowners Choose Us

“I highly recommend Austin Historical. The entire process was seamless to restore and rebuild 19 windows at our historic home in Avondale, Jacksonville FL. Nate and Matt helped facilitate the whole process from assessment, to coordinating with the preservation society, to execution. Matt and team did an incredible job bringing our old windows back to life, and building replicas as if they were original. Finding professionals in this field is difficult. Austin Historical made the process easy.”

The Craftsman Behind the Company: Meet Scott Sidler

Founder of Austin Historical & The Craftsman Blog

Scott Sidler didn’t just stumble into preservation—he was born into it. As a third-generation painter, plasterer, carpenter, and master glazier, Scott grew up with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and traditional building techniques.

In 2010, he founded Austin Historical after recognizing a gap in dedicated restoration services for historic buildings across the Southeast. A graduate of the Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont, Scott has been restoring historic buildings since the late 1990s and brings both hands-on expertise and visionary leadership to every project.

Scott is also the author of several widely respected books on historic restoration, sharing practical, real-world guidance with homeowners and professionals alike.

He has served on boards such as the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Window Preservation Alliance, Orlando Historic Preservation Board, and the Parramore Mainstreet District.
